It is known as one of the most beautiful sunset’s in the world, if not the most beautiful. Santorini’s sunset is the sole reason that many travellers visit the island. The spectacle lasts for only a few minutes but it is definitely a view that somebody can hardly forget! An explosion of colours illuminating in the sky and the Aegean blue all in one view combined; it is truly amazing.
Best Places To Watch The Sunset
From The Sea
Avoid the crowds and enjoy the sunset in a relaxed, romantic cruise on the Aegean Sea.
Watching the sunset under the caldera in a more private environment is definitely an experience someone hardly forgets!
Our recommendation: Santorini Sunset Boat Tour
The most famous spot to watch the sunset! The amazing scenery, the white-washed houses, the blue-domed churches and the marvellous buildings compose a marvellous scenery. The highlight though is the festivity that prevails from all the people waiting for the sun to set.
The Castle of Agios Nikolaos is widely considered the best spot to watch the sunset. We highly recommend arranging to arrive early since finding a good spot is really hard. There are people who go there, hours before the sunset just to find a good point.
While less famous than Oia, Imerovigli offers a stunning sunset with the sun slowly sinking behind Thirassia island. There are lots of cafes or terraces from where you can view the sunset. The highest and best point though is the Venetian Castle located above everything else.
Definitely a great and less crowded choice.
Depending on what time of the year you visit Santorini you should check at what time the sun sets so you can prepare and arrange your schedule accordingly. To be sure a simple google search with the term “Santorini sunset time” is the best solution. In general, the sunset in between 7.00 p.m. in March to 8.30 p.m. in August.
