The Archaeological bus tour is one of the best tours to explore the excavations of Akrotiri village and ruins. Enjoy scenic views from the highest point of the island, the Mount Prophet Elias. Visit: Prophet Elias Monastery – Megalochori village – Akrotiri Excavations (with Guide) – Red Beach (aprox. 45 min free time, approach on foot 10 minutes approximately per way) – Perivolos Beach (free time swimming) – Last stop for free wine tasting.

Akrotiri excavation site entrance fee (12€) not included.

Tour Description

Start with the breath-taking view at the Prophet Elias Monastery and visit the picturesque monastery. Then follows Megalochori village, an extremely charming traditional settlement, almost abandoned after the big earthquake and Akrotiri excavations, one of the most significant archaeological sites, that includes a vast structure, once habited by 200 families and preserved buried under the volcano’s lava.

Then you will have free time at the Red Beach for swimming or simply enjoy the colorful formations of the mountain and/or visit Akrotiri Bay for coffee or lunch with Greek traditional mezedes and ouzo (not included). Perivolos, with its black sandy beach comes next. There you will have enough time to enjoy swimming, explore the area and taste fresh cooked fishes at the local taverns. Last stop, one of the most popular wineries of Santorini, for a wine tasting experience.

For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours in advance of the start date of the experience. This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund. This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. FAQs

Know before you go
Guest must be 10 minutes early at meeting point.
Guests must be able to walk over cobblestones and uneven surfaces, inclines and steps.
The starting times might change depending on the season and the time of the sunset and will be advised upon confirmation of your booking, if applicable.
Children ages 4 and under are free of charge; however, infants 0-1 years can also travel free if they sit on an adult's knee.

How to prepare properly for the tour?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and sensible, flat-soled, closed walking shoes. Sunscreen, sunglasses are also recommended. Please take a light jacket for the sunset.
Akrotiri excavation site entrance fee is not included (12 EUR) and can be paid directly at the site on the day of the tour, in cash.
This tour is not wheelchair accessible because of the varied terrain at the sites you will be visiting.
